MSU Alumnus & Which Wich CEO Honored by College of Com. Arts

Founder and CEO of the Dallas-based Which Wich Superior Sandwiches restaurant chain and MSU alumnus, Jeff Sinelli, recently received a 2017 Outstanding Alumni Award from the College of Communication Arts and Sciences Alumni Board. With this honor, however, Sinelli decided something was missing as he reflected on his roots.

Which Wich has over 500 locations in 12 countries and 39 states, with close to 10 in Michigan. Currently, there are none in the Lansing area and Sinelli wants to change that. He began his search walking up and down Grand River Avenue, taking down numbers and addresses in hopes of finding his new Which Wich spot. “It’s great to have stores in your home state, but look, I spent four of my best years here and I want to have a great store here in East Lansing,” he said.

Sinelli graduated in 1990 and says much of his maturity and entrepreneurial proclivities are owed to his time spent at MSU.

“I enjoy the challenge of the business world, the challenge of growing a business around the world, and Michigan State really gave me a real good foundation to set me up for success,” he said. Sinelli comes back about twice a year to speak for classes in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences and Eli Broad College of Business. With roots this strong, it’s no wonder he is determined to open a new location in a place that gave him so much.

“It’s my way of kind of connecting and giving back, because 27 years ago I was here, and I can come back and give a real perspective of what it’s like out there in the real world as opposed to the university world, because there’s a real contrast between the two,” he said.
