New Which Wich Location in Mokena
This month, John and Julie Shapiro opened a new Which Wich location in Mokena, Illinois, making this business endeavor a family affair, along with their son and daughter. Unlike other sandwich shops, Which Wich provides a unique customer experience. Guests are given preprinted sandwich bags with 10 menu categories. Using a red Sharpie, one can choose the bread, cheese, spreads, and toppings to customize any sandwich in any number of ways.
This is the first restaurant for the Shapiro family, though they hope to open more. Julie Shapiro is a retired preschool teacher, allowing her the opportunity to be the daytime manager of the new Which Wich. Her husband is an investment broker and devotes his nights and weekends to their shop.
The couple’s decision to join the Which Wich family came after eating at a Detroit location with their son during a hockey tournament. They were immediately taken by the unique vibe of the restaurant and eventually went to its base in Dallas to proceed with the paperwork to open their own location. The Shapiro’s son and daughter also work at the Mokena location.
When asked about their desire to open more shops, John Shapiro forecasted late 2018 or 2019 for future openings, possibly in New Lenox or Frankfort. The Mokena location is only the second Which Wich in the southwest suburbs, bringing the total of Chicago-area shops to 12.
